Two Car Lineup for GMG During Canadian Rounds of Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America
With the busy summer season under way, Global Motorsports Group (GMG) will head to the scenic Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Canada, prepared to tackle the seventh and eighth rounds of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America.
“The circuit at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park is really tricky,” stated GMG team owner James Sofronas. “There are a lot of high-speed corners, elevation changes, and a place that you never really get a chance to relax. It should be a great place to test Tom and David, but I’m sure they’re up for the challenge. It’s effectively the home race for our partners at Lamborghini Vancouver and hopefully we can deliver a strong effort.”
As the lone event in Canada, taking place at the 2.46-mile Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (formerly Mosport), the race will hold a special significance for the No. 88 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 owned by the Lamborghini Vancouver. Driven by Washington native David Welch, who made his series debut just over one week ago at Watkins Glen International, hopes are high for a strong second run.
“We had some tough luck at Watkins Glen, but hopefully we can rebound this weekend,” stated Welch. “I learned a lot about the car and that should help translate to a strong run in Mosport. It will be great to be back and I’m looking forward to it.”
Meanwhile, series veteran Tom O’Gara will continue his championship run in the No. 33 Lamborghini Beverly Hills / O’Gara Motorsports machine. O’Gara, making his debut at the circuit, is hoping for a clean and safe run during the weekend’s two sprint races.
“Canadian Tire Motorsport Park is said to be one of the more challenging tracks we race at,” stated O’Gara. “From everything I’ve been told, patience will be key and I know I need to make sure we keep the car on the line for all 50 minutes. Luckily everyone at GMG has done an excellent job getting prepared, and I’m excited for the weekend.”
Practice for the event will begin this Friday, July 11, with Races One and Two taking place on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. The team will post progressive updates throughout the weekend.
