Prior to the Fuel Run for Monterey this Aventador SV came in for some final touches. While already a stunning car we were able to add some final components to help set it off just right.
The factory hood was removed and replaced by the newly-released piece from Vorsteiner. Named the “Zaragoza Edizione” this pre-preg carbon hood is pressed into shape in Vorsteiner’s Autoclave and features oem-perfect fitment.

The wheels that rolled out on the car when it left Sant’Agata were pretty, but the SV’s dramatically-geometric body needed to roll on something a bit more bold. Up stepped Aristo Wheels. They provided a set of their 20”x9” front and 21”x13” rear Sport 5v wheels. These 3pc reverse-lipped wheels feature a color matched outer lip with satin gunmetal faces. Last of all we lowered the Aventador and performed one of our GMG-Signature alignments. With that done, this SV left our shop and proceeded to terrorize the roads on up to Monterey.

GMG Set for Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series Return

Continuing their commitment to driver development and a vertically integrated platform, Global Motorsports Group (GMG) is pleased to announce a two-car return to IMSA’s Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series North America, with the 2016 season-opener taking place during this weekend’s Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Entering two cars, team owner James Sofronas will return in the team’s No. 14 entry, with open-wheel standout Stefan Wilson and veteran driver David Seabrooke driving the team’s No. 23 machine.

“It’s great to be back in the series,” stated GMG team owner James Sofronas. “We’ve been happy to compete in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series since their first North American race in 2013, and it’s great to be part of the effort three years later. The Lamborghini Huracán is a great car that is a ton of fun to drive, but equally important it’s a great platform for developing drivers to get in with a wide range of experience levels. Having been involved in the series for several years, we have a great data set behind us, and in such it should really help anyone who comes under our tent. The addition of Stefan and David will be fantastic for us this weekend. Stefan is obviously weeks away from his Indianapolis debut and hopefully we can help get him ready, and David comes with years of experience in sports car so they should be a good mix. I also need to thank Lamborghini Newport Beach for really stepping in to help the program this week, they’ve been a great partner and a big part of why we’re here.”

Entering two separate Lamborghini LP620-2 Super Trofeo machines, the team will bring a combination of experience and development to the IMSA-sanctioned event.

Headlining the program will be the No. 23 Canoe Studio Studios machine with Wilson and Seabrooke. A newcomer to the series, Stefan Wilson joins the team with a wealth of open wheel racing experience, including winning the 2007 McLaren Autosport BRDC award for young drivers, taking four wins in the British F3 National class, and most recently two wins in the Indy Lights series. Most notably, the 26-year old will make his debut at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in just three weeks, driving the No. 25 Chevrolet for KV Racing as he attempts to qualify for the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500.

“It’s great to get back behind the wheel before a busy May begins,” stated Wilson. “The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series should present an interesting challenge, and it’s one I look forward to. The cars will be very different from what I’m used to, but I look forward to the opportunity, and I really appreciate David and the whole team at GMG for providing the opportunity.”

Hailing from New York, David Seabrooke will also make his series debut co-driving with Wilson. A veteran of both two and four-wheel racing, Seabrooke’s most notable experiences come from IMSA competition, having driven both the legendary Porsche 962 and Nissan GTP machines in 1989 and 1990 respectively, racing at such events as the Rolex 24 at Daytona and Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. Since then, David has continued to drive in a variety of events, most notably European vintage racing in the prolific Porsche 934.5.

“It’s great to return to IMSA competition,” stated Seabrooke. “The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series seems like a really fun, competitive way to get back on to this level of motorsport, and it just seemed like the right opportunity. James and everyone at GMG have been great to work with so far, and it should be a great opportunity for all of us involved. Stefan is obviously new to the series as well, but given his experience I’m sure he’ll be up to speed quickly, and it should make for a great weekend.”

Returning to the series will be the No. 14 Lamborghini Newport Beach / Mobil 1 / Spyder machine of James Sofronas. While the Villa Park, California native is most known for his exploits in the Pirelli World Challenge, the team owner has run multiple LBST events over the last three years as part of the team’s commitment to developing their aftermarket line of Lamborghini street products. Sofronas earned multiple victories and even a team championship during the inaugural 2013 season. Using the weekend as an opportunity to dial in the cars and make progress on setup, the team is still entertaining potential options on a possible co-driver for Sofronas, splitting track time and race duties.

Official practice begins this Friday, April 29, with Race One taking place on Saturday at 10AM PT followed by Race Two on Sunday, May 1 at 8:30AM PT.

GMG Driver Development Program Continues with Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo in Austin

Following the most recent double-header week of competition for Global Motorsports Group (GMG) and the entire Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America, GMG drivers Jeffrey Cheng and Rob Phillips showed tremendous improvement throughout last week’s festivities at the famed Circuit of the Americas in Austin.

“Overall I’m pretty happy with the incredible effort of everyone on the team,” stated GMG team owner James Sofronas. “The week went went pretty flawless for all of us. Jeffrey was tremendous, especially for being new to this level of competition. CotA is a really tough track, super fast and super technical, but he worked his way up to speed with a tremendous amount of patience and maturity. Rob had never been in one of these machines before this race, and to get in and go as quick as he did is a great testament to both Rob and the team. All of our guys have had a busy few weeks jumping back and forth between programs, so to keep the motivation as high as they have is a great testament to their commitment.”

Driving the No. 88 Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2, drivers Jeffrey Cheng and James Sofronas took to the week after an amazing debut event in which Cheng scored triple podiums at VIRginia International Raceway. Headed to Circuit of the Americas, however, Cheng knew that the challenges of the Formula One-spec circuit would create a unique challenge for the rookie. Having never driven at the venue before, the Newport Beach resident showed great patience in getting up to speed, improving over five seconds from his first session to his last. During Thursday’s Race One, the duo of Cheng and Sofronas would take sixth in the Pro-Am category, followed by seventh in Race Two. Between Race One and Race Two alone, the No. 88 car would show an improvement of two seconds, and fourth fastest in class. Equally noteworthy, Cheng made zero major mistakes on the weekend, bringing the car back without a scratch and setting the team up well for the next round at Road Atlanta.

“After the weekend at VIR, we knew this would be more of a challenge,” stated Cheng. “Circuit of the Americas is definitely a challenging course, and my expectations were a lot more modest headed in to the weekend. I’m of course disappointed that we didn’t quite have the same results as our last race, but we expected that and overall I’m happy with the progress we showed. Everyone at GMG did a great job preparing the car, and we can walk away with a certain sense of satisfaction. I’m really looking forward to Road Atlanta and seeing what we can do.”

In the No. 32 Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2, Rob Phillips would also show well during his maiden run in the series. A veteran of other sportscar series, the driver had never taken to Lamborghini competition before, also showing tremendous improvement over the week’s action. Competing in the AM category, Phillips would set the second fastest lap during Thursday’s Race One en route to a fourth place finish, however contact would force him to retire early from Friday’s Race Two.

“COTA was an excellent opportunity to get some initial seat time in the car and explore the competition,” stated Phillips. “The car is simply a blast to drive! I was very impressed with the quality and professionalism of the series, and am really excited to progress further with the team next week at Road Atlanta.”

With less than two weeks until the next round at Road Atlanta, the crew at GMG is already hard at work preparing their vehicle for the next series of races. Race One will take place next Thursday, October 1 at 2:15 PM ET, with Race Two taking place on October 2 at 5:25 PM ET.
