Udell, GMG Head to Penultimate Pirelli World Challenge Weekend at Sonoma Raceway
Following an impressive Pirelli World Challenge season in which he’s not only taken two victories, but also a podium finish in every race he’s finished, Global Motorsports Group’s (GMG) Alec Udell will return to the series’ penultimate weekend at Sonoma Raceway, just two days away.
“With the season winding down, we all want to finish strong,” stated Udell. “The last two event weekends have been incredibly special for me, and I’d like to continue that into this weekend. Sonoma Raceway is always a fun one, it’s a great venue and a fun layout, and we think it should suit us well. Passing there is incredibly tricky, and we’ve had great starts at our last few events, so if we can keep that going we should be right in the thick of the competition.”
Driving the No. 17 Euroworld Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup 991, the 19-year-old is looking to continue where he left off last weekend in Utah, where he scored his second victory in the GT-Cup class of the season. Having missed several rounds of the championship due to an incident at St. Petersburg, victory and continued podiums are all the Texas native is after. So far in 2015, he’s taken 10 podiums in 11 starts which includes a podium in every race in which he’s seen the checkered flag.
Unfortunately, Alec will be the lone entrant for the team at Sonoma, with team owner James Sofronas being forced to sit out another weekend following an on-going back injury. While a nagging injury that has plagued him all season, the issue was re-aggravated during practice last weekend in another series.
Practice begins tomorrow, August 28, at 9:20AM ET, with race action taking place on Saturday, August 29 at 4:50PM PT. Race Two will take place on Sunday at 10:55AM PT. Live race coverage can be found world-challengetv.com.
